Former Futureboard candidate Tim Mendelssohn tells us where he is now and shares his views on Futureboard.
Former Futureboard candidate Tim Mendelssohn is really enjoying working for the company he was headhunted for through Futureboard. Tim joined the energy company on an 18-month scheme, working in the Procurement Supply Chain Management sector.
Supply chain management has been defined as the “design, planning, execution, control, and monitoring of supply chain activities with the objective of creating net value, building a competitive infrastructure, leveraging worldwide logistics, synchronizing supply with demand and measuring performance globally.”
Tim says: “I really liked the company and the role I was working in, but through positive relationships I established in Aberdeen by internal networking, I was able to secure a role in a different line of business that I find really interesting.”
Having studied International Management and Spanish at Bath, he was keen to use his language skills.Tim will start his next rotation in the Integrated Supply Trading (IST) sector in September. He says he will be based either in London or in Madrid, which would give him the chance to put his Spanish into good use.
Tim says: “One of the reasons why I applied for IST is travel. Madrid is a first step towards my dream to work for the energy industry in South America.”
Tim says he is still very excited about working in the energy industry. The company he works for continues to interest him, carrying out a number of new investments including some in the North Sea.
Tim hadn’t thought of working in the energy industry before, but after talking to Futureboard – who headhunted him through LinkedIn – he started considering a job there as an option. He says Futureboard helped him through a process that is not so straightforward anymore: “Futureboard really helped go through all the steps and processes to get this job. It’s not about sending your CV and waiting for an answer anymore – there are a number of processes you have to go through and it can be quite complicated.”
Tim says anyone applying for a job should try and work in many different sectors to find out what they really don’t want to do: “Be fickle: you can afford it when you’re 18 or 20, but not when you’re 25.”
Tim adds: “Use your time at uni to do work experience, that’s what’s going to differentiate you.”
